Sebastian Fitzek "Clinic"
30 August 2010
Author: Sebastian Fitzek
Title: The Clinic
Genre: Medical thriller
Description: The Breaker—that’s what the press has dubbed the psychopath who mentally torments his victims. He doesn’t use physical violence against them; instead, he traps them inside their own bodies, making them appear to be in a strange coma, unable to speak or move. However, they are thinking and want to wake up from this nightmare. Additionally, the Breaker leaves a riddle-like message with each victim.
A patient with amnesia is brought to a psychiatric clinic. Due to a raging snowstorm, the hospital is cut off from the world, and the Breaker makes his presence known once again. The medical staff and patients are trapped, but they do not wait passively for help. They try to figure out if the new, mysterious patient has any connection to the Breaker and search for a way to escape. However, the killer will try to convince them that this is impossible.
Sebastian Fitzek builds tension brilliantly. I read the book in one sitting, not knowing until the very end who the Breaker would turn out to be and what his motive was for committing these crimes. A major plus for *The Clinic* is its short chapters, which make it even harder for the reader to put the book down.
