All that sugar

24 February 2017
Original Title: That Sugar Film Country of Origin: Australia, 2014 Genre: Documentary Director: Damon Gameau Screenplay: Damon Gameau Cast: Damon Gameau, Zoe Tuckwell-Smith Medical Topic: The Effects of Sugar on the Human Body Australian actor Damon Gameau decides to conduct a two-month experiment on himself, involving the daily consumption of 40 teaspoons of simple sugars (in various forms). The entire project is conducted with the help of a family doctor, a dietitian, and a pathologist. From the start of the experiment, his heart rate, blood pressure, body weight, waist circumference, lipid profile, and ALT and AST levels were systematically monitored.  The conclusion of the video is rather logical, but I think it’s a cool video even for medical professionals —you can draw a few interesting conclusions from it for yourself, e.g., it vividly illustrates just how much sugar can be found in our daily diet, which isn’t necessarily full of sweets and fast food, and also that we should pay more attention to the protein : fat : sugar ratios in our diet than to the actual caloric value of the foods we consume.
