Fatal attraction (Fatal attraction).

12 December 2012
Production and year: USA, 1987 Original title: Fatal Attraction Genre: Drama, Thriller Director: Adrian Lyne Screenplay: James Dearden Cast: Glenn Close, Michael Douglas, Anne Archer Medical topic: borderline personality disorder Description: I watched this excellent film, an absolute cinema classic, in its entirety for the first time just yesterday. I wanted to see if Axel Forrest (Close) was indeed portrayed there as a typical woman with borderline personality disorder. Just as Professor Rabe-Jabłońska’s book, recommended for LEK, informs us. I was not disappointed. The film’s main character enters Dan’s (Douglas) life after a chance encounter in a pub. After spending intoxicating moments with her while his wife and daughter are staying with his in-laws, the man decides to end the fleeting affair. However, this proves impossible. Axel won’t let it go; he won’t allow himself to be ignored, craving constant attention. He’ll go far beyond simply cooking Dan’s daughter’s favorite rabbit in a kitchen pot. The frantic efforts made to avoid an imagined abandonment, the minimal ability to cope alone, the tendency toward unstable and intense relationships, emotional instability due to marked mood reactivity, fleeting stress and anger, recurrent suicidal behaviors, self-harm, a desperate struggle for attention from others, dysphoric episodes—everything typical of borderline personality disorder is served up on a silver platter in this film. On top of that, Glenn Close gave a sensational performance, effortlessly embodying such a complex character. I highly recommend it.
