The Mob Doctor

22 October 2012
Original Title: Mob Doctor Country and Year: USA, 2012 Cast: Zach Gilford, Jordana Spiro, William Forsythe, Wendy Makkena Medical Topic: Cardiac Surgery Additional Information: 1 season Description: The main character, Dr. Grace Devlin, is a young and extremely promising cardiac surgeon. To pay off her younger brother’s debt, she begins working with the mafia. She hides her double life from her colleagues, as well as her boyfriend and family. In the series, we follow the young doctor’s work both at a state-of-the-art medical center, where she participates in innovative cardiac surgeries, and in “field conditions.” As part of the tasks assigned by the mafia, Dr. Devlin is forced to provide medical assistance in a wide variety of situations (poisoning, injuries sustained in accidents, delivering babies) with very limited access to medical equipment. She must repeatedly make difficult moral decisions, balancing the well-being of her patients with her own safety. In each episode, we learn more about the main character’s past and her history with the criminal underworld. Dr. Devlin, initially almost annoyingly perfect, begins to develop a more complex personality. The episode endings cast the stories told in them in a completely different light and leave you eager for the next episodes. In my opinion, the well-developed gangster characters are a major plus. I recommend it.
