Therapy

24 October 2012
Original title: In Treatment Country and year: USA, 2008–2010 Genre: Drama Cast: Gabriel Byrne, Dianne Wiest, Mia Wasikowska, and others Medical topics: psychotherapy, suicide, lymphoma Additional information: 3 seasons "In Treatment" is an American adaptation of the Israeli series "BeTipul." It tells the story of psychotherapist Dr. Paul Weston. Each half-hour episode depicts a single therapy session. In this way, we follow the course of therapy for individual patients, as well as the therapy Dr. Weston himself undergoes. The therapeutic process is portrayed quite realistically. The "human side" of the therapist himself, who also struggles with many problems, is particularly noteworthy. Paul Weston, though professional in his interactions with patients, often loses his professional objectivity when reflecting on his own behavior. So far, three seasons of the series have been filmed and aired. With the start of the next season, therapy for new patients begins. HBO has announced that if another season is filmed, the format of the series (1 patient = 1 episode) will be changed. The series will certainly be of most interest to those interested in psychotherapy; in my opinion, it may be a bit tedious for others. The dialogues are very elaborate—in fact, the plot relies on them—so it’s not for people who value only pretty, colorful images in movies.
