As a teenager, Emily was a boring nerd, bullied in high school by her more popular peers. She enters adulthood full of hope—believing she has left all the unpleasantness behind her. Unfortunately, it turns out that one of the residents is her high school rival, Kassandra Kopelson (King). Furthermore, the rules of the hospital environment aren’t much different from those of a high school setting. Here, too, there are distinct “cliques,” rumors circulate, and one can become the target of not-so-subtle meanness—not necessarily deserved. I’m not thrilled with this show. It doesn’t prompt any deeper reflection. The characters’ squabbles seem childish to me, and I don’t find them likable. The “medical” aspects aren’t explored very deeply either. Perhaps younger (teenage) viewers would enjoy the show.
