A sensitive doctor with whom the aforementioned surgeon begins a romance. A foreigner who struggles greatly with the English language. An ambitious doctor who solves all medical mysteries. A well-informed boss who can handle any situation. Plus, in the background, a few surgeries and a whole lot of personal lives. All of this set at Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Doesn’t that sound at least a little familiar? It seems very familiar, actually. The series could even be described as a classic of the genre. Is it enjoyable? For those who follow the fates of other TV doctors with bated breath, definitely yes. For me, it’s hardly any different from the rest. There is, however, one interesting plotline worth noting. The show’s title refers to the weekly meetings of all the hospital’s surgeons, where their mistakes are discussed. Doctors are told directly how many deaths they could have prevented and how. That a single test would have been enough to discover that someone had cancer. Or that taking a thorough medical history regarding the biological father of a young boy would have revealed he might have hemophilia and allowed them to anticipate the possibility of massive bleeding. I definitely recommend the series to fans of the genre. I think that if you’re involved in the medical field, it’s also worth watching at least one episode, especially because of the Monday meetings.
