During a night shift in the emergency room at Springer Hospital, Dr. Toby Harper admits a disoriented Harry Slotkin, a patient with unusual neurological symptoms who, according to his son, had been completely healthy until then. Amid the commotion surrounding the resuscitation of another patient, he disappears without a trace. Soon, another patient with nearly identical symptoms arrives—Angus Parmenter. It turns out that both are residents of the luxury nursing home Brant Hill and are under the care of the same doctor—Dr. Carl Wallenberg. During a visit to Brant Hill, Toby learns about the hormone treatment the residents undergo to maintain eternal youth. When Parmenter dies, Toby, against Wallenberg’s wishes, arranges for an autopsy. The results leave no doubt about the terrible diagnosis. Her involvement in the case soon lands Toby in serious trouble...
Tess Gerritsen, a physician by training, is among the best authors of medical thrillers. Her books are incredibly hard to put down; with every chapter, you want more and more until the very last page. I highly recommend both *The Infection* and her other books.
