Robin Cook "Foreign Body"
28 August 2010
Author: Robin Cook
Title: Foreign Body
Genre: Medical thriller
Description: "Foreign Body" is one of Cook's latest novels. It continues the adventures of New York medical examiners Laurie Montgomery and Jack Stapleton. The protagonists are now married, and the only thing missing from their happiness is a child. Laurie therefore undergoes treatment at a fertility clinic.
Meanwhile, a medical student in Los Angeles, Jennifer Hernandez, receives news from India of the death of her beloved grandmother, who died following routine hip surgery. Jennifer leaves for Delphi that very same day to complete all the formalities. Once there, however, it turns out that the circumstances of her grandmother’s death are unclear, and the hospital refuses to perform an autopsy. She soon discovers that there have been other similar deaths, and someone begins to threaten her life. She asks her friends, Laurie and Jack, for help.
In *The Body Snatcher*, Robin Cook introduces readers to the phenomenon of “medical tourism,” which is popular in the modern world, and highlights the potential risks patients should consider when traveling to Third World countries for medical treatment. Another issue addressed in the book is infertility resulting from prolonged use of contraception.
I highly recommend it!
