Title: The Surgeon
Author: Tess Gerritsen Release
Date: 2001
Genre: Medical Thriller
Description:
Detectives from the Boston Police Department are investigating a serial killer who murders young women in an exceptionally cruel manner, performing a hysterectomy on them without anesthesia and then slitting their throats. Two years earlier, similar murders took place in Georgia, but the perpetrator was shot by his would-be victim, Dr. Catherine Cordell. Could a copycat have emerged? Or is there something more connecting them? The doctor (currently working at a Boston hospital) once again begins to fear for her own life. One of the detectives offers her support, but how will this affect the investigation? And finally, will they be able to stop the perpetrator before he reaches his main target? The stakes are high, especially for the young and ambitious police officer, Jane Rizzoli. The outcome of the investigation could determine her career and, above all, strengthen her position in the male-dominated police environment, where she has faced discrimination until now. This
is the author’s first novel in the Rizzoli & Isles series. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning, and with every page, the desire to discover who the titular Surgeon is grows stronger. The killer’s truly psychopathic thoughts, which surface from time to time, send chills down your spine. Other undeniable strengths include descriptions kept to a minimum and a focus on the dialogue between the characters, which makes the book impossible to put down.
