Description: Bruce Willis once again stars in a film with a medical backdrop. This time, it’s perhaps the least formulaic of all those described in this section. It’s so unconventional that the viewer isn’t sure what’s reality and what’s fiction.
James Cole (Willis) is a man we meet as an envoy from the future. His mission is to prevent the spread of a deadly virus across the world—an event that occurred 40 years earlier. James, however, ends up straight in a psychiatric hospital, where he meets the beautiful Dr. Railly (Stowe). There, he also meets Jeffrey (Pitt), the mentally ill son of a famous virologist. The plot begins to get increasingly complicated. There’s no point in spoiling it. You simply have to watch the film.
To get a feel for the atmosphere of "12 Monkeys," here are Dr. Railly’s words:
"What is real, and what isn’t? Psychiatry is the newest religion—we decide who is crazy and who isn’t. Unfortunately, I’m losing my faith."
