Description: The film is set in the 1930s in Krynica. The main character is Widmar, a wealthy industrialist who is madly in love with his beautiful, young wife Rebeka. And the word “crazy” is no accident here. He begins to suspect that his wife is cheating on him, which quickly turns into an obsession. He launches an investigation to verify his fears.
His main suspect is the surgeon Tamten, which shifts much of the action to the hospital. The medical storyline is quite extensive; we get a close look at Tamten’s work and even accompany him during Rebeka’s surgery. The portrayal of the doctor’s social standing is also very interesting.
Overall, the film struck me as average. However, the music composed by Wojciech Kilar is definitely noteworthy, as it very skillfully underscores the film’s atmosphere. It’s also interesting that Ewa Krzyżewska received a Golden Duck nomination for her role in the Best Lover category.
The film was based on Michał Choromański’s book of the same title; I haven’t had the pleasure of reading it, but others’ reviews suggest that it is also worth checking out.
