October baby

30 May 2013
Original title: October Baby Country and year: USA, 2011 Genre: Drama Cast: Rachel Hendrix, Jason Burkey, John Schneider Medical topic: Abortion Description: Hannah has a very complex medical history. She suffers from asthma, underwent numerous surgeries as a child, and has psychiatric issues. When she has a seizure during a school play, her parents decide to talk to her. During a visit to the doctor, they inform her that she was adopted. She was born prematurely after surviving a failed abortion. This shocks the girl, who naturally decides to go in search of her biological mother. Fortunately, her friend Jason (and here comes the typical romantic subplot) and a few other friends decide to take a trip to the very place where Hannah was born. The answer to the question “Is it worth watching?” is by no means simple. It definitely depends on the viewer’s views on abortion. If someone is opposed to it, they will most likely consider the film a tear-jerking attempt at propaganda. On the other hand, supporters will say it’s a wise and instructive film. The truth, as usual, lies somewhere in the middle. "October Baby" is closely linked to the anti-abortion movement Every Life is Beautiful. For those who decide to watch the film, I recommend watching it all the way to the end. During the credits, a statement from one of the actresses appears, in which she talks about her experiences related to having an abortion. The film is partly based on the story of Gianna Jessen, a leading activist in the anti-abortion movement.
