Now is good

1 June 2013
Country and year: United Kingdom, 2012 Genre: Drama Cast: Dakota Fanning, Kaya Scodelario, Paddy Considine Medical condition: acute lymphoblastic leukemia Description: Creating a bucket list is a popular idea among dying movie characters. Tessa, who is suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, decides to do the same. The disease progresses very rapidly, and treatment is no longer helping, so the girl decides to stop it and make the most of the time she has left. Her list includes, among other things, losing her virginity and doing something illegal. Falling in love, however, is not on the list. The girl does, however, succumb to the charms of her handsome neighbor, Adam. Will the boy return her feelings? Will he decide to enter into a relationship with the terminally ill Tessa? Or will he decide that the sacrifice is too great and choose to live his own life? The film also depicts the parents’ attitude toward their child’s impending death. Tessa’s father adopts an overprotective attitude, reciting the risks of procedures from memory and scouring the internet for new treatment methods. On the other hand, her mother is unable to enter the hospital and has no idea about her daughter’s medical history. Unfortunately, neither of them is what the girl needs. "Now is good" is a beautiful portrayal of what a young, dying person faces. It also shows that, beyond the suffering of the patient themselves, death wreaks havoc on everyone around them. The film is definitely worth recommending.
