Production and year: Poland, 2000 Genre: Drama Screenplay: Krzysztof Zanussi Director: Krzysztof Zanussi Music: Wojciech Kilar Cast: Zbigniew Zapasiewicz, Krystyna Janda, Paweł Okraska, Monika Krzywkowska Medical theme: see description Description: An outstanding film balancing on the edge of good and evil, powerfully addressing very important issues. It does not seek simple solutions, but presents life as it is.  In the lead role is Zbigniew Zapasiewicz as a distinguished doctor who must fight the final battle for a patient’s life in his career. A patient who is none other than himself. The issues addressed are wide-ranging. An experienced doctor battling lung cancer. Explaining to his ex-wife that he is simply rotting from the inside. A race against time to raise money for surgery. Disappointment when the funds are finally raised, but the surgery is impossible. The issue of administering high doses of morphine to terminally ill patients. Entrusting the mother of a dying young man with a supply of painkillers, knowing that after his death, she too will want to end her own life. A sensitive medical student who cannot bear the sight of human death, let alone observe an autopsy. Issues of faith and God in human life. In contrast to medicine. While we can say that *Znachor* is the most outstanding Polish film on medical themes, we must admit that *Life...* is the boldest film in this genre, and at the same time, a very profound one. Let’s watch Polish films! They’re really worth it!
