Production and year: Poland, 1963 Director: Aleksander Ścibor-Rylski Screenplay: Aleksander Ścibor-Rylski Cast: Aleksandra Śląska, Zbigniew Cybulski, Pola Raksa, Barbara Krafftówna, Barbara Brylska, Franciszek Pieczka, Zbigniew Józefowicz Medical theme: the work of an emergency room doctor in Poland in the 1960s. Description: An excellent film centered on three characters: Andrzej (Cybulski), an emergency room doctor; his wife Nitka (Śląska); and a beautiful stranger (Raksa), who calls the emergency room to help her sister (Brylska). Circumstances lead to Andrzej becoming a "temporary widower" for a month. The beautiful Grażyna (the stranger) wraps him around her finger during this time and moves in with him. What will happen when Nitka returns home? As for the medical aspect—the realities of emergency doctors’ work in the 1960s are portrayed quite well. “Stylish” ambulances, a bit of pharmacology, emergency medicine, and the doctor’s work ethic. Medicine isn’t the main theme of this film, but despite that, it features heavily.  A must-see. The film is based on a book by director and screenwriter Aleksander Ścibor-Rylski. An incredible man—and an incredible story with *Their Ordinary Day*! It’s worth noting that Ścibor-Rylski was the screenwriter for films such as “Man of Iron” and “Man of Marble,” and the actors appearing in the film—even those in supporting roles—are undeniably the cream of Polish acting, at the peak of their careers.
