The series presents deeply moving stories of morbidly obese individuals for whom nothing but the scalpel can help, even though they face a far more complex problem. Surgery is not the end of the problem, but the beginning of many new ones. It turns out that changing a patient’s lifestyle is more difficult than performing a successful surgery on an obese patient. Often, habits prove stronger than the will to shed dozens of excess pounds, causing immense difficulties in treatment. That is why one must view the person from a broader perspective. Other specialists also come to the rescue: a psychotherapist helping with weight loss before surgery, or a plastic surgeon if, following a sudden post-operative weight loss, there is excess skin and the cosmetic result is no better than before the operation. We learn about the lives of people whose weight prevents them from even walking, or children who develop emotional problems due to their appearance.
Description: "Obesity Surgery" is a series depicting the incredibly difficult struggles of patients and doctors with a condition that is often embarrassing, challenging, and very difficult to treat—a fact not everyone realizes—obesity.
